Gaming
Games, games, games, and more games! Board games, card games, role-playing games, you name it, we'll have it. The Enigmaversary pre-empted this year's normal "MiniCon", so we're compacting what would normally be a full weekend of gaming down to a single day. Game schedule and player sign-ups to come.
  More Details

All Enigmans and friends of Enigma, past, present, and future* are invited.

* Hey, we are a science fiction club! But do note, the Enigmaversary is a private celebration for members of Enigma and their friends.

Consult the Enigma main list for the most recent details.
You can send questions or comments to enigmaversary@enigmata.org.
Please RSVP for all events so we know how many people to expect.
See below regarding getting rides to the off-campus events.

Enigma Returns to Earth at the Nova Express Cafe

Join your fellow travelers for a relaxing meet, greet, reacquaint, and general fun-ness before the big Enimgaversary weekend! Food and drink available! They serve beer and wine... and Cthulhu shakes! Menus and establishment photos available at website.

      Mapquest Map

Note: Parking your spaceship might be difficult in the area, so consider using your Sub-Etha Signaling Device to hitchhike with someone else. Street parking is free -- if you can find it. There is a public parking lot at the corner of Rosewood and Fairfax (enter from Rosewood), a half-block north of Nova Express. Parking there is $5, good all night. It's an attended lot.

Because we're actually renting out the entire restaurant for four hours, there will be a cover charge. $25 gets you access to the buffet (pizza, sandwiches, and appetizers) plus three drink coupons (1 coupon for soft drinks and bottled water, 2 coupons for beer, wine, hot drinks, and smoothies, 3 coupons for mixed drinks). Inter-dimensional portals open at 7pm PST (non-DST), and the venue is OURS until 11 pm (14,400 super-seconds later). Visitors are welcome to stay past 11 pm, but after that Muggles and Mudanes will be allowed in.

**COME IN COSTUME! ANY KIND OF COSTUME!**

Enigmaversary Party

The centerpiece of the Enigmaversary weekend, the all-day Enigmaversary Party will be both a fantastic party and a celebration of 20 years of Enigma memories. There will be massive amounts of food and drink, including both a full dinner and prize-winning dishes from past Dilithium Chef competitions. Displays of Enigma photos and memorabilia will be available all day, along with an entire room set aside for the huge amounts of Enigma video footage from live games, stage performances, and amateur video projects. Plus miscellaneous games and other events will be held throughout the day.

After dinner we'll have the "keynote ceremony", which will include an introduction by the club's founding president, live performances by the Enigma Players and Lux Theater, some secret project from the warped minds of Pat and Ian, the opening of the time capsule put together at the 10-year Enigmaversary, and a special highlight reel of memorable videos.

Address and directions to the party (including carpool info) will be posted on the Enigma main list, or e-mail enigmaversary@enigmata.org. We'll be asking for voluntary monetary contributions to cover the cost of food; the exact amount will be announced when we have a better estimate of attendance.

Ultimate Frisbee: Ubergame III

During the first Enigmaversary, we got something like 24 people onto the field for a ridiculously over-sized "Ubergame". So for the sake of nostalgia, and a little exercies to burn off all the calories we'll be consuming the rest of the weekend, we're doing it again! All levels of player welcome, including complete neophytes. Bring both a light-colored and a dark-colored shirt so we can easily identify teams.

Ubergame III will be held on one of the fields at University High School in West LA, 11800 Texas Ave, 90025 (Mapquest map). Both street parking and an open gate to the athletic fields are located on Westgate Blvd. We're not actually reserving a field, just hoping to find some empty space, so we could be on either the upper or lower fields -- just look for Enigmans throwing a disk.

Enigmapelago, the Enigmaversary Live Game

Enigmapelago is a game of machiavellian intrigue and wacky mini-games set on a chain of 13 floating islands. A Player-Noble from each Island will represent 4 political parties as they compete for the roles of 4 Duke/Duchess positions and one King/Queen position through a series of wacky "elections", the rules of which are to be created by Player-Judges during the game and then decided by Player-Electors. The ultimate goal is to rebuild as many bridges as possible to reconnect the island chain before the islands float off into the sea of sky. All in just 3 hours.

Enigmapelago will be held at the Sunset Recreation Center at UCLA (map). For those driving to campus, parking is available in lot RC; you can either use the automated Pay Stations in the lot or purchase an all-day permit ($7) at one of the main parking kiosks on Westwood Blvd (at either the north or south entrances to campus). The game is FREE, runs from 4PM to 8PM, Sunday Feb 19th, and interested players should RSVP with Andy Ashcraft at: a(dot)ashcraft(at)gmail(dot)com.

Address and directions to the gaming sites (including carpool info) will be posted on the Enigma main list, or e-mail enigmaversary@enigmata.org. Food and beverage is potluck -- bring something to eat/drink and share with everybody else. We'll also have all the leftovers from the Saturday Party. As per traditional Enigma potluck rules, no coordination of contributions is allowed! (You'd be amazed how well that works out.)

Transportation

If you need a ride from UCLA to the Friday or Saturday parties, or are willing to provide such rides, e-mail Scott to put you on the list. We'll make sure there are enough drivers to accomodate all passengers and announce a central time/place to meet on campus for each event. Sorry, but we're unable to coordinate rides for people arriving late or coming from places other than UCLA. However, you can probably arrange your own rides by posting an announcement on the Enigma main list. If you need rides to the Sunday and Monday events, it will probably be easiest just to ask around on Friday and Saturday. Those events are also close enough to campus to easily use the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus system; the #1 line going down Santa Monica Blvd will bring within a couple blocks of both the FIRM and University High.
